Hi, Im new to both Autocad and Sketchup SDK. I have been searching on web for a way to copy 2d drawings from Autocad to Sketchup. I have already found for clipboard handling in Ruby and for reading DXF files but i don't know im on a right track or not? I found that Autocad creates temporary files for copied contents and i don't know where i can find them and how to read them back in Sketchup. My idea is to add an event handler to monitor ctrl-v events in sketchup (no necessary can be a custom command ) and check a folder for Autocad's temporary clipboard files then parse them.
Oct 14, 2005 - I have a file that was sent to me with 23 sheets (23 layout tabs), and of. AutoCAD says it's out of memory and decides it needs to shut down. And copy paste the defaults you want to use at the bottom of the lisp routine. Redefine Layout Viewport Boundaries You can redefine the boundary of a layout viewport by using the VPCLIP command. You can either select an existing object to designate as the new boundary, or specify the points of a new boundary.
But i dont know how can i start. Can you help me on this please?
FYI - Probably nothing new but I stumbled on this method and it became handy real quick! I've manipulated (e.g. Copied, Moved, etc.) AutoCAD layouts over the years and wished it could be done across different drawings while in a drawing session. This would be synonymous with MS Excel tabs right? Maybe it was a brainstorm (or I paid attention for a change ) but the From Template option caught my attention again. I've used it to bring titleblocks in, but I needed to move 5 different Layouts from one electro-mechanical (conveyors, etc.) drawing to another that had 7 layouts.
I did not want to re-create and have to track layers that had been turned off/on, etc. In the many different viewports. Here's what happened:. I selected the 5 layout drawing and SAVED AS a template. Switched to the 7 layout drawing and right-clicked on the first layout and selected From Template.
Browsed for the template created in #1. Selected Insert layout(s) and highlighted all layouts needed and pressed OK. Layouts inserted a little out of order, but I quickly dragged them into place. All layouts brought in maintained their viewports, vpscale, etc. There's probably a better method, but the 5 minutes spent on this saved time. Learn something new everyday.hopefully this will help somebody else.
Thanks, Barry. I am not sure what you are asking. If you just want the layout (Paper Space) content and do not need the Model Space content here are the steps. On a layout tab in your currant drawing right click go to From Template and browse to the drawing that has the layouts you want to use. 2 select from the box the layouts you need and hit OK.
Now the layouts you selected are in your destination drawing. There is no need to use the clipboard. If you want the layouts and Model Space objects then you follow the steps above then go into the drawing that has the Model Space objects and copy objects return to your destination drawing and Paste to Original Coordinates. Failure to copy layout tab when using From Template. Have used this method many, MANY times to copy layout tabs from one DRAWING FILE to another DRAWING FILE without problem.
